About
Phillipa Lowry Trumic (nee Short) was born in Christchurch in 1963. She lived in Malaysia and England prior to attending school in Canterbury.
She graduated from the Otago Polytechnic School of Art before commencing a nine-year teaching career at Secondary School and Continuing Education levels.
Phillipa has been exhibiting her paintings since 1997. Her work is attracting a growing number of followers which has seen her paintings sought by collectors throughout New Zealand and overseas.
She paints rural scenes with a fresh perspective. Her works are strongly elemental, and have a directness which both captures, and modulates reality. Touches of surprise in the use of colour, perspective and proportion are intrinsic to Phillipa's style.
Phillipa uses her immediate North Canterbury locality as the general setting for her work. As an aboriculturalist, she appreciates the form of indigenous trees, and uses these as particular elements in her work.
The people in her paintings are drawn from Phillipa's life. They are country people; their work anchors them to the land; they know its qualities.
